11/04/2011

Today in Social History of Education, Gijs has told us to read the following pages from Puelles' book:
139-149
159-170
191-200
204-211
221-226
229-240

I am trying to download the book, but it seems to be likely impossible, so I will try to get it from the library and scan it, but there are no copies available, at least, until the 16th, so we will have to wait.

"Typical question of the exam (according to Gijs):

Educational politics of the provisional government
• Allowance of education in Catalan schools.
• Religious liberty was defended.
• Main preoccupation was primary education.
• Construction plan for the schools.
• Education is a task of the State.
• Education has to be secular.
• Education should be free.
• Public education has to have an active and creative character.
• Education has to have a social character.
• Public education has to be equal for both sexes.
• The different grades of education have to be connected.
• Teachers should receive a unified education."

Besides, Jesús Paz-Albo has sent us an e-mail giving the dates for the discussions of examination, which are: November, 15th and 16th in Office 62 (Departamental I, Vicálvaro). Still, as far as I know, he hasn't given any grades yet, so it is yet to discuss what the discussions are going to be about...

A few issues

Good morning mates,

First of all: There was some controversy about the dancing lessons on yesterday's post. I was told there were no dancing lessons, but it doesn't mean it was Gijs who told me, because it wasn't indeed. So, if you were told by him that you were taking lessons today, then go and take them.

I have just arrived from the law office and they have already advised me about the Habilitación Lingüística and all the measures to be taken.

I have also received an answer from Rosalie Henderson, from CUI, and we have scheduled an appointment on Tuesday to discuss about the Pruebas de acceso.

By the way, I reiterate that anyone who hasn't signed the sheet yet and wants to do it, it must be either today at 5 o'clock, 6 o'clock or Monday at 3, 5 or 6 o'clock.

I will need people to do some research for the Habilitación Lingüística, so if anyone is willing to lend a hand just send me an e-mail and I will surely have a task to give you.

Thanks in advance.

Ethics

Hello class,

I have been informed of two things.

The first one is that there is no Ethics class tomorrow. Neither there are dancing lessons yet, so we don't have to be in class until 5 p.m.

The second one is that the 'To kill a mockingbird' assignment, must be given to our classmate Marten. He is the one in charge of giving all of the assignments to Gabriela, so make sure you hand him yours tomorrow at 5.

Today in School Organisation most of the people were, let's say, absent. I guess not many of you have taken notes, so I have uploaded them, just in case:

11_03_2011

Besides, he has told us to read:

Artículo 27

and also (remember it's only sections 1, 2 and 4):

Organization in the educational system, sections 1, 2, and 4

These are for next week, and the Reflective Activity from today's notes is an individual assignment due to Nov 7th or 8th. He will open an assignment on the WebCT.

I have also read around the campus that, due to the Almudena, we won't have any classes on the 9th, which is next Wednesday, so make sure you note that.

These are the files we needed to look for in Theory of Education:

Information Processing

And the last one I haven't been able to find the same image, but I guess this one will work the same:

Bloom's Taxonomy
In Social History of Education Gijs has said we have an extra week to deliver the essay, which must not be longer than 5 pages or shorter than 3. He has also explained that we need to write just a few lines talking about the whole book, answering the question 'Why did the author write this book?' and then explain largely one single part of the book, such as, for instance, 'Antipedagogía'. Then a brief opinion at the end, and that would be it.

Finally, this is the video he has played in class:

Remember bringing case no.9 tomorrow.

CUI

Good morning class,

I have already sent an e-mail to Rosalie Henderson in order to schedule an appointment with her to let her know about the complain, and try not to take it further. I really hope we can reach an agreement withouth having to deliver the complain to Registro.

All of you who haven't signed the complain yet, you will have until next Monday to do it, because I will try to meet Rosalie Henderson on Tuesday, and I need to type names, surnames and ID numbers so that there are no missing signatures because of the writing. So, in order to include as many people as possible, those who have not signed yet, please come to class 102 from 3 pm to 6 pm in order to sign the complain.

Thanks.

E-mail addresses 2

I remind you there was a post asking you to send me an e-mail (you have my address on the left side of the blog) so that I can keep a record of everyone's e-mail addresses in order to send you information I cannot publicly share.

Please, those who haven't sent me an e-mail yet, send me an e-mail writing your main e-mail address (the one you use the most), but please write it, so that I only have to copy it, because the new system doesn't let me copy the sender's e-mail, so I have to type it myself. Otherwise, don't complain if you don't get important information I might share with you.

It is to say that e-mails I send will only be sent once, so if at the time I send the e-mail, you haven't  shared your address with me, you will not receive the e-mail, so I beg you not to ask me to send it, because we are a lot of people in class and I really can't be arsed to send it individually. Today's e-mail will be sent by 2 p.m., so make sure you share your address before then.

Thanks,

Richard.

First of all, this is the comic from Paz-Albo's slides:

Spanning the World

He has said we need to complete 'Handout Master 4.1 "A matrix for comparing the Underlying Assumptions of Fice Philosophical Orientations to Teaching"'.

Besides he has given us an individual assignment:

1. List the characteristics of:

- Perennialist,
- Essentialist,
- Progressivist,
- Social reconstructionist,
- Existentialist Teacher.

Read the "portraits" located in the text, page 119 (BAT).

2. Reflect on your schools.

· Identify which educational philosophy was predominant.
· Give evidence of your position.

Final complaint to the CUI

Hello mates,

I am sorry I haven't taken the complaint to its final destination yet, but I have been doing a deep research in order not to have to complaint twice. I found out it was due to the Comunidad de Madrid and the CUI, supposedly, didn't have anything to do with it, so I tried to find information about it but I haven't been able to find anything yet, so I have been reading laws for Universities at the National level and I came up to an interesting article, so, finally this is the complaint we are going to give to the CUI. I hope you are all happy with it, because it is taking a lot of work along with the other complaints we are to sign yet...
